When it activates

Scribeable activates a calculator from the encounter. The Calcium Corrected for Albumin can activate when the transcript or pasted chart context documents any of these:

  • Low albumin with borderline calcium
  • Hypocalcemia evaluation
  • Hypercalcemia workup
  • Parathyroid disorder assessment
  • Malignancy-related calcium abnormalities

A coded diagnosis can also activate it. ICD-10 prefixes carried by the registry: E20, E21, E58, E83.5.

Inputs the note needs

2 inputs. Each is resolved from the transcript, the pasted chart context and charted labs; at this calculator’s tier a missing input is never requested, and a missing required input keeps the score out of the draft.

Scoring

Corrected Ca = Measured Ca + 0.8 × (4.0 − albumin)

Formula as the note renders it

Corrected Ca = Total serum calcium in mg/dL + 0.8 × (4.0 − Serum albumin in g/dL)

Interpretation

Normal corrected Ca: 8.5–10.5 mg/dL. <8.5: True hypocalcemia — check PTH, vitamin D, magnesium. >10.5: True hypercalcemia — consider PTHrP, malignancy, granulomatous disease, vitamin D toxicity. Ionized calcium is preferred when available.

How Scribeable handles it in the note

When an encounter activates the Calcium Corrected for Albumin (its highest tier is recommended), Scribeable does not ask you for missing inputs. The score is computed in code from whatever inputs resolve from the transcript, the pasted chart context or charted labs; a computed value is written into the draft only when every required input already resolves.

The score is computed in code from the resolved inputs, not recalled by the language model. If the draft states a Calcium Corrected for Albumin value that disagrees with the computed one, the disagreement is flagged to the second drafting pass, which is instructed to correct the score and its interpretation before you see the note.

Classified as a deterministic formula: a spare suggestion is easy to ignore, so activation is permissive.
