Most AI scribe vendors will not tell you the price
We checked eleven vendors, plus ourselves, on the same day with the same two automated checks. 3 of 12 publish a self-serve dollar price. 7 publish no price at all, and 5 of those have no pricing page anywhere — not at the conventional address, and not linked from their own homepage.

Why this is worth measuring
A solo clinician evaluating an AI scribe cannot compare what they cannot see. When a price is missing, the real cost of evaluation includes finding the right contact, explaining the practice, sitting through a demo, and waiting for a written quote — before any comparison can begin at all.
That is a defensible commercial choice for a vendor selling to health systems. It is still a cost, and it falls on the buyer. This index records who asks the buyer to pay it, on a date, by a method anyone can repeat.
The index
Every cell records what a check returned on 2026-08-19. Vendors change their sites; a row is a snapshot, not a permanent characterisation.
| Vendor | Disclosure | Probe | Observed |
|---|---|---|---|
| ScribeableFree tier after a 14-day trial, then Lite at $39 and Pro at $79 per month. Practice tier is sales-led and carries no public figure. | Publishes prices | 200nav: /pricing | $39 · $79 |
| FreedPublishes a full self-serve ladder. The top figure observed on 2026-08-19 was $149, above the $119 ceiling recorded in the July 2026 pass. | Publishes prices | 200nav: /pricing, /front-desk#pricing | $39 · $59 · $79 · $104 · $119 · $149 |
| TwofoldDollar figures appear on the homepage rather than behind a pricing link. $69 month to month, with a lower annual-billing rate. | Publishes prices | 200 | $19 · $69 |
| Doximity ScribeStates Scribe is free for verified US clinicians. No subscription price to disclose. | Free to stated users | 200 | — |
| Heidi HealthA pricing page exists and names Free, Evidence, Clinician and Enterprise plans. No dollar amount appeared in the server-rendered page. | 200nav: /en-us/pricing | — | |

| AbridgeNo pricing page found by either check. | No pricing page | 404 | — |
| NablaNo pricing page found by either check. The same URL also returned 404 in the July 2026 pass. | No pricing page | 404 | — |

| Epic AI ChartingNo public price. Access comes through an organisation’s existing Epic installation rather than a self-serve purchase. | No pricing page | 200 | — |
Method
- Two automated checks per vendor, both run on 2026-08-19 with a desktop browser user-agent.
- Check one: request the conventional pricing path on the vendor’s marketing domain and record the HTTP status, then extract dollar figures from the server-rendered HTML with scripts and styles stripped.
- Check two: fetch the vendor’s homepage and extract every link whose href contains "pricing", "plans", or "cost", to catch pricing pages that live at a different path.
- A vendor is recorded as having no pricing page only when BOTH checks come back empty. Where the checks disagreed, the homepage link won and the page was read by hand.
- Vendors whose pages returned 200 without a dollar figure were additionally read by hand to separate "names tiers without prices" from "free to a stated audience".
What this does not show
- The checks read server-rendered HTML. A price painted in by client-side JavaScript, or revealed only after a monthly/annual toggle, can be missed. Rows other than the two "published" ones were read by hand to reduce this risk.
- Enterprise and health-system agreements are negotiated and would not appear on a marketing page regardless of vendor policy. This index measures what a solo clinician or small practice can find without contacting sales. It is not a claim about what anyone eventually pays.
- Scribeable is included because excluding ourselves from our own index would be the dishonest version of this format. Our row was checked the same way and is subject to the same limits.
