Scoring

For <32 weeks: based on sex, birth weight, gestational age, base excess, temperature at admission. For >=32 weeks: based on sex, birth weight, gestational age, base excess, temperature at admission. Score range 0-27. Higher score = higher mortality risk.

Interpretation

Designed for initial assessment within 1 hour of admission. Scores stratified by gestational age group (<32wk vs >=32wk). Lower scores indicate better prognosis. Useful for comparing NICU outcomes, parental counseling, and clinical trial risk stratification. Advantages over CRIB-I: no blood gas requirement in first version, simpler to calculate, better calibration for modern NICU care.
