What Is Rounding Mode?
Rounding Mode is designed for providers who see multiple patients consecutively. Instead of starting and stopping a recording for each patient, you record one continuous session and Scribeable automatically:
- Detects when you transition from one patient to the next
- Segments the recording into individual encounters
- Generates a separate clinical note for each patient
This is ideal for hospital rounds, nursing home visits, multi-patient clinic days, and any workflow where you see patients back-to-back.
How It Works
- Start a Rounding session from the web dashboard (navigate to the Rounding tab)
- Begin recording — walk through your encounters naturally
- Scribeable listens for transitions — when you move to a new patient, the AI detects the shift based on conversational cues (greetings, introductions, room changes)
- Mention patient or room details — saying a patient name, room number, or bed number helps Scribeable tag each segment
- Stop recording when your rounds are complete
- Review individual notes — each patient gets their own note with the correct note type and content
Patient Transition Detection
Scribeable uses multiple signals to identify patient transitions:
- Verbal cues: Greetings, introductions, "next patient," "let's go see..."
- Room/bed references: "Room 412," "Bed 3A"
- Patient names: When you or nursing staff mention a patient by name
- Silence gaps: Extended pauses between encounters (e.g., walking between rooms)
Each detected segment includes a confidence score. You can manually adjust segment boundaries in the review step if the AI split them incorrectly.
Note Generation
After the rounding session ends, Scribeable generates notes for each patient segment:
- Each note uses the note type you configured (or you can set per-patient types)
- Notes include all standard features: structured sections, ICD-10 codes, billing suggestions
- Quality metrics (completeness, clarity) are calculated per note
- Missing information is flagged with clarification prompts
Voice Commands
During rounding, Scribeable recognizes spoken intent that helps categorize each encounter:
"Progress note"
Standard daily follow-up
"Admission"
New patient admission
"Consult"
Specialist consultation
"Discharge"
Patient being discharged
"Update plan"
Plan changes only
"New patient"
First encounter with patient
These are optional — Scribeable will infer the encounter type from context if you don't explicitly state it.
Requirements
- Rounding Mode is available on the web dashboard (not the iOS app directly)
- Requires a Professional plan or higher
- Works best in environments with moderate background noise — complete silence between patients isn't needed
- Supported in 36+ languages, same as standard recording
Tips for Best Results
- Mention the patient's name or room number when you start each encounter
- Keep your recording device (laptop/phone) close enough to pick up conversation clearly
- If you notice a missed transition, you can manually split segments during review
- For long rounding sessions (10+ patients), notes may take a few minutes to generate — you'll get a notification when they're ready
